Efforts to accelerate green mobility and green energy in Indonesia continue to show tangible progress. Through a synergy between Environmental Bamboo Foundation (Yayasan Bambu Lingkungan Lestari - YBLL), Spedagi, and PT Pertamina (Persero), the "Spedagi GoSeko" (Gowes ke Sekolah / Ride to School) movement has been officially launched to promote a cycling culture among school and university students.
This tactical step was initiated to reduce emissions from the transportation and energy sectors, while simultaneously driving the creation of low-carbon yet iconic bamboo-based products.
This strategic collaboration has successfully produced 200 units of Spedagi GoSeko bamboo bicycles. Among these hundreds of units, a Spedagi Rodacilik (minivelo) variant was also created, specifically designed using Pertamina's signature colorway a blend of blue, green, and red as a representation of the corporation's support for the green energy transition.
The manufacturing and assembly process of all these bicycle units is divided into five measurable main work stages, including: metalwork, bamboo processing. accessories manufacturing, frame assembly and finishing stage.
The unique value and advantage of this bamboo bicycle lie in its supply chain, which is based on village community empowerment. The bicycle frames utilize laminated bamboo processed from bamboo nurtured and harvested directly by the "Mama Bambu" (Bamboo Mothers) in Ngada Regency and other YBLL-assisted villages.
Through this approach, the bamboo bicycle is designed to highlight bamboo as a raw material of the future produced using low-waste methods, while proving its potential as a low-emission mode of transportation and a renewable energy source.
This local-based green innovation not only targets domestic utilization but has also been widely recognized on the international stage. These bamboo bicycle products were recorded to have been showcased to the Indonesian public and used as official souvenirs for heads of state at the 2023 ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo, following previous presentations to participating heads of state at the 2022 G20 Summit in Bali.
In addition, similar tokens of appreciation were presented to several ambassadors of friendly nations who actively support conservation movements in Indonesia.
To expand its positive impact, this movement also targets school children in 12 cities across Indonesia to build environmental awareness from an early age.
At the same time, this Indonesian bamboo bicycle global campaign continues to be popularized worldwide through the involvement of Wisli Sagara. As an Indonesian bamboo bicycle ambassador participating in the "Kayuh untuk Bumi" (Pedal for the Earth) movement, this action is expected to strengthen Indonesia's position in environmental diplomacy and the adoption of a sustainable lifestyle in the eyes of the world.
