The community of Papring Neighborhood, in Kalipuro Village, Banyuwangi, demonstrated a strong commitment to environmental preservation while nurturing their local identity through a mutual cooperation (gotong-royong) bamboo planting action on Saturday and Sunday, May 2-3, 2026.
This location is one of the development points for bamboo-based agroforestry programs from Environmental Bamboo Foundation (YBLL) in collaboration with PT. Pertamina (Persero).
Village Facilitator (YBLL), Meyco Danu Pradana, was actively involved in assisting the mutual cooperation bamboo planting activity carried out with Papring Residents. According to Danu's explanation, apart from local residents, this activity also involved the Pares Batu Youth and the heads of the RT and RW (neighborhood associations), who worked hand in hand to plant along the roads of the Papring Neighborhood.
From the activity, it was clear that there were no barriers between children, youth, and other villagers. Their solidarity was reflected in their cheerful cheers as they loaded bamboo seedlings onto the pickup truck, during the soil loosening process, and finally while watering the bamboo using pipes along the roadside.
A total of 200 bamboo seedlings were successfully planted, consisting of 100 Nagin Bamboo or Bottle Bamboo seedlings and 100 Yellow Bamboo seedlings. Simply put, they view this action as a way to create a positive impact on climate change, while also creating a cooler, more natural, and beautiful village atmosphere in the long run.
“This greening step is not just an ordinary environmental action; we see this as an effort to restore the historical essence of the Papring Neighborhood. Just like the name of the hamlet, which is derived from the word "Papre or Papring", meaning a lot of bamboo grows here. So, through this activity, we want to bring back that essence, especially since local residents also support us to keep doing this,” said Danu (3/5/2026).
The planted bamboo seedlings were obtained from the independent cultivation of the Papring Local Bamboo Nursery Group, which is guided by YBLL. Consistently, this group has developed various types of varieties such as: Batu Bamboo, Yellow Bamboo, Nagin Bamboo, and Benel Bamboo.
Through the development of various types of local bamboo that naturally grow in the surrounding environment, the Papring Local Bamboo Nursery Group strives to ensure the availability of seedling stocks for similar actions planned to be carried out sustainably with the community.
“This activity will continue through a bamboo planting action once every year, together with the local community,” Danu emphasized.
This spirit of togetherness is expected to become an ecological legacy that does not just stop at planting, but also strengthens the identity of Papring Hamlet as the heart of bamboo conservation in Banyuwangi.
