The Environmental Bamboo Foundation (Yasan Bambu Lingkungan Lestari/YBLL), in collaboration with PT Pertamina (Persero), is developing the Green Learning Dormitory at the Komodo Bamboo Campus (KBK). This multi-story building is designed to become a landmark for climate action, conservation, and agroecology.
The Green Learning Dormitory is conceived as the first modern building in Labuan Bajo to utilize laminated bamboo boards and timber produced by the Mosedia Bamboo Shared Production Facility (RPB) for its structural framework and finishing.

Green Study Dormitory Design
This dormitory features a split-level design measuring 13.5 x 13.5 or providing 183{ m2 for the single-story configuration and 270 m2 for the two-story layout. It consists of 8 functional spaces, including 6 bedrooms, a co-working office space, a training room, an open-air canteen with a kitchen, and 2 restroom clusters (comprising 4 stalls).
The building is designed with a modular approach, allowing it to be replicated either side-by-side or independently. It stands out as a green building that prioritizes appropriate site development by focusing on energy efficiency and conservation, water conservation, material resources and cycles, as well as indoor health and comfort.
The Green Learning Dormitory seamlessly blends modern structural strength with natural beauty. Utilizing a concrete foundation as a sturdy base, the building highlights bamboo as the primary material for the roof and other upper structural elements. Consequently, it offers unique advantages as a cool, aesthetically pleasing living space that significantly reduces carbon footprint compared to fully conventional buildings.
The commitment to environmental sustainability is deeply embedded from the initial raw material sourcing. All bamboo is sourced from YBLL-supported farmers around the Manggarai and Labuan Bajo regions. The harvesting follows strict Sustainable Harvesting (Panen Lestari) protocols using a selective cutting method, where only mature bamboo culms are harvested. This sustainable system ensures that the local bamboo forest ecosystem remains well-preserved and capable of regenerating sustainably.
Once harvested, the selected bamboo is transported to the Mosedia factory to be processed into high-quality laminated bamboo products. This facility is managed directly by the Wanatani Bambu Lestari Multi-Stakeholder Producer Cooperative, an economic vehicle whose members comprise the local community. Through this comprehensive upstream-to-downstream supply chain, the Green Learning Dormitory project does not merely erect a physical structure, but actively builds a sustainable ecosystem that successfully integrates architectural innovation, environmental conservation, and local economic empowerment.

Green Study Dormitory Design Details, Labuan Bajo
To date, the construction progress of the Labuan Bajo Dormitory is advancing steadily, particularly in the completion of the main structural works. The concrete structural framework and the brickwork for the first-floor restrooms have been fully completed, and the project is now entering the preparatory stage for installing the laminated bamboo elements in accordance with the design plans.
Continuous coordination with the execution team and fabrication partners is maintained to ensure the construction process aligns with the planned completion targets. Several primary laminated bamboo components are currently in the fabrication and refinement stage, requiring scheduling adjustments for the production and on-site installation processes.

Development of Green Learning Dormitory Development, Labuan Bajo
Overall, as of July 16, 2026, the construction progress of the Labuan Bajo Dormitory has reached 42,456% based on the initial Bill of Quantities (BOQ) and actual site execution. Key works that have shown significant milestones include:
- Preparatory works are 100% completed
- Earthworks are 100% completed
- Masonry works are 100% completed
- Concrete works are 100% completed
- Sanitary plumbing works are in the initial execution phase
- SMKK (Construction Safety Management System) and permitting are ongoing progressively as required by the project
With these achievements, the project is now entering the next phase, focusing primarily on laminated bamboo installation, finishing, and the completion of other architectural elements.
